Day Two: Dragon Flight

Hi!

When I woke up today I had an idea for a phenomenal painting. In my head, I saw a scenic misty forest with two ravens (Huginn and Muninn) flying above it on their way to carry news to Odin. It was going to be glorious.

I set up my area, which is just a corner of my kitchen where I put all of my supplies out on my kitchen table. I picked a canvas (16x20in, because that’s my favorite) and assembled my easel. With a deep breath, I started mixing paints.

My background turned out okay. I used light colors and blended each color into the other, creating soft transitions. Then I added some darker shadows and a little detailing to make trees. The trees looked nothing like they did in my head, but it looked pretty good. I should have stopped there.

However, I did not stop there. I tried to paint the two ravens flying right in the middle of my lovely light colored sky. It did not go well. I covered the mistake up with streaks of light, and did what I always do when I need to cover something up. I added a dragon. I don’t know why I always add a dragon, but if you ever see a painting with a big black dragon silhouette in it, it means I messed something up.

Anyway, here it is. Thanks for stopping by!
